Looking for a Year 5 NAPLAN English tutor? Sometimes it’s not the big ideas that hold a child’s writing back — it’s the small, specific gaps in vocabulary and grammar (exactly what NAPLAN’s Language Conventions test checks) that quietly limit everything they write.
What This Class Is About
This class closes exactly those gaps, using non-fiction texts as the working material — building the words and grammatical control your child needs to write with real precision.
What We’re Covering This Term
- Word building (morphology): understanding prefixes, suffixes and root words to unlock unfamiliar vocabulary independently.
- Grammar in context: correct tense, subject-verb agreement and sentence construction, practised through real non-fiction writing.
- Precise word choice: replacing vague, overused words with specific, accurate ones.
- Applying it in writing: using new vocabulary and grammar correctly in their own non-fiction writing, not just in isolated exercises.
Why It Matters for NAPLAN
A child can have great ideas and still lose marks on expression and Language Conventions. This class targets the specific, fixable gaps that hold writing back — the kind that are easy to miss until they show up in every piece of work, NAPLAN included.
Mica Academy teaches this class live online, so your child gets a qualified English tutor whether you’re in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or anywhere else in Australia.
Term 3 runs 18 July – 25 September. Spots are limited — get in touch to enrol your child.
